The AAAS Annual Meeting is interdisciplinary and inclusive. Each year, our community gathers together to discuss recent developments in science and technology. Below you’ll find stories from many of our attendees.
Developing a Science Identity: Proven Strategies for Engaging Youth in Science
Scientists recognize the need to communicate with the public and engage young people in STEM. However, they rarely receive formal training in engaging and communicating with children and youth. This workshop explores research on effective strategies for communicating with young people and engaging under-represented groups in science. Presenters share outreach and communication strategies that support youth in developing a STEM identity, and discuss the impact of identity on education and career choice. They provide resources on developing local partnerships with youth-serving organizations that can broaden the impact of your work and successfully engage youth from all demographics.
