Affirming Youth During Retesting
The engineering process involves trial and error. Watch as staff encourage youth to investigate how they designed their package, what did or didn’t work with their design, and how they might adapt for re-testing. Staff support youth’s abilities and encourage youth to work with their team and develop their own solutions for re-testing their designs. Pay special attention to the interaction between frontline staff and the group whose egg did not survive the re-testing process.
Research suggests: Frontline staff and volunteers provide encouragement to keep trying and support to youth who try out new skills with imperfect results, errors, or failure and help them problem-solve and correct their mistakes. (STEM PQA)
