Testing Explanations of Cause and Effect
Staff guide youth to develop explanations on how to improve their machines by both helping them recognize and possibly discard design flaws. Youth develop explanations of cause and effect while testing out those explanations as they design and redesign.
Research suggests: Youth need opportunities to engage in constructing and critiquing explanations.(Informal Science Framework) Frontline staff and volunteers provide activities that allow youth to describe what they are doing and what they are thinking about to others. (STEM PQA)
