What important lessons about models does this activity afford?

It helps the students understand and predict how the lines at a store work. It also gives them an idea of what could be a more efficient way to check out at the store. This lesson also teaches that even though a model will give you information about a situation, that information might not be accurate since the model cannot account for real life situations.

This helps students use critical thinking about how lines may work. They are able to create a system to make the lines move more efficent but also teach them that because its a real world situation their guesses may not be what happens in the real world.but this is also a great way to teach kids  and explore variables in science and given situations.
