Using the Tools of a Scientist
Girls at the GEMS Club get excited about using the tools of a real scientist! Staff engage girls in extracting and examining the DNA from various fruits and vegetables. Using tools and methods of observation like a real scientist, Jen and Laura make the learning personally meaningful.
Research suggests: Frontline staff and volunteers sustain participation through introduction of new tools, approaches, or ways to conceptualize problems. (Museums Afterschool: Principles, Data and Design)
