Making Connections to STEM Careers

Purpose: Frontline staff and volunteers will be able to connect their program to the work of STEM professionals.

As a result of ongoing, consistent professional development efforts, frontline staff and volunteers will be able to:

  • Identify ways youth could engage in STEM in the future.
  • Introduce STEM role models that relate to the real world of the youth including diversity in gender, race, socioeconomic status, and ethnicity.
  • Engage with local partners to connect youth to STEM opportunities and role models in their community.
  • Connect real-world STEM skills to activities they are facilitating.

Staff Development Guides

Staff development guides are designed for coaches and trainers to use when providing professional development to frontline staff or volunteers. These dowloadable step-by-step professional development guides include agendas, social and experiential learning activities, videos learning modules, supporting documents and handouts. Self-Directed Web Lessons

Click2Science Web Lessons offer self-directed, on-demand professional development for frontline staff and volunteers. Web Lessons are hosted on Penn State Extension's Better Kid Care learning managemente system.   • Connecting to STEM Careers

    Out-of-school time facilitators will learn about the need for today’s children to become equipped to fill jobs requiring science, technology, engineering, and math skills. Youth leaders will learn strategies and view examples of how to get school-age children excited about STEM careers. Learn how to connect with STEM professionals within the community to enhance programming. This lesson is part of the twenty Click2Science skills designed to help frontline staff facilitate STEM experiences.
