STEM Celebrations in June
National Egg Day
June 3rd is National Egg Day. Prepare for Egg Day with an Egg Drop Challenge. This activity teaches about the engineering design process and introduces youth to packaging engineers. See how staff get organized for this activity.
National Yo-Yo Day
June 6th is National Yo-Yo Day. Try out these fun ways to explore the physics that make yo-yos so much fun.
Family Health and Fitness Day
As life comes back after COVID-19, more and more people are thinking about family fitness. Reach out to your Parks and Recreation Department and see how your program can join in celebrating Family Health and Fitness Day on June 12th. Being active together as a family builds healthy habits and strong relationships. Encourage families to bring STEM and fitness together with nature walks or bird watching.
The summer solstice is the longest day of the year when the Earth's pole is tilted closest to the sun. This year the solstice is on Sunday, June 20th. Go outside and trace some shadows with sidewalk chalk, make sun prints on construction paper, or build your own viewer to observe the sun safely.
